About Us

Finding Inspiration in Every Human

Our Mission

Our mission is to Diversify The Coast by breaking down barriers and connecting underserved youth to the ocean’s transformative and healing power. We believe that the ocean is not only a place of joy and adventure but a source of deep healing—for people, for communities, and for the planet.

Our Vision

We envision a future where every humans feels a deep connection to the coast, inspired to protect and preserve marine environments. We strive to create lasting change by nurturing the next generation of leaders who champion inclusivity, environmental stewardship, and the healing power of the ocean.

how it all started

Paddle for Peace was born out of a moment of deep pain and a collective need for healing. In 2020, during the George Floyd protests and the Black Lives Matter movement, our founder Risa, a biracial woman and surfer—felt called to create a space for her community to grieve, find solace, and stand against injustice. The ocean, which had always been her refuge, became the setting for a powerful paddle out to honor the lives lost.

What started as a small gathering of friends turned into thousands of people from across Southern California lining the shores in solidarity. That day sparked a vision: the ocean should always be a place of healing, not just for one day, but for the future. And from that vision, Paddle for Peace was born, with a mission to diversify the coast and make it a welcoming space where people can learn, play, and heal together..
