Project Clean Water
About Project Clean Water
Project Clean Water is a county-wide initiative dedicated to protecting water quality in San Diego County. The initiative fosters greater awareness of everyday actions people can take to reduce runoff and stormwater pollution. Project Clean Water is made up of 21 agencies that offer a centralized point-of-access for water quality information, resources and water management plans. Project Clean Water encompasses all 11 of the regional watersheds. The goal is to support the region’s water quality on behalf of healthy ecosystems and
communities.
Project Clean Water’s Mission
Water entering our storm drains is not treated, which means pollutants from chemicals, waste
and other runoff can contaminate our rivers, lagoons and the ocean. Project Clean Water’s
mission is to expand awareness of ways we can all contribute to clean water and healthy
communities.

What is Project Clean Water Announcing on World Water Day, March 22
Project Clean Water is launching a multi-year educational campaign to focus on how San
Diegans can reduce stormwater runoff, minimize the use of pollutants and chemicals and
engage in proper trash disposal. Key elements of the launch include:
• A 52-week action pledge campaign - “52 Ways to Love Your Water” - that provides
weekly small actions that everyone can participate in that will help protect our
waterways. The pledge aims to get San Diego involved and invested in keeping our
communities healthy. Each week, a new action will be revealed on Project Clean Water’s
social media and newsletter while also providing additional context to help with
education around the topic.

• Engagement on social media – The launch also includes encouraging engagement
through Project Clean Water social media channels and the unveiling of a newly-
designed website (still under wraps), which includes resources to keep our water clean and communities healthy. Social media handles are:
