Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 10, 2020

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is recognized every year for the entire month of October. But, due to Covid-19 restriction, the yearly Breast Cancer Run that Susan G. Komen holds annually was cancelled due to the large turn out they usually have, so we stepped in to help out.

Paddle for Peace held a fundraiser that was sponsored by 28 amazing brands, businesses and restaurants that offered prizes to raffle off. In total we raised $2,854 that went directly to Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

In addition to the fundraiser, we held a small socially distanced paddle that was similar to a walk or run. Participants were instructed to paddle in a straight line as far as they could and then catch a wave in for themselves or their loved ones. While those on land walked along with the surfers in unison on the sand.

The purpose of this event was to support our community by honoring those who have lost the battle to Breast Cancer, to celebrate those who beat it and to stand with and support those still fighting. View our gallery below. Our goal was to raise awareness and encourage women to do their monthly breast exams which can save their life.
